Dogwood Canyon Water Features
If Johnny Morris’s name is on something, then you know it will be world class. Dogwood Canyon is no exception, the park is amazing. We adore the wide paved pathways that guide you through the park. Our stroll along the trail is mostly alongside the gently flowing stream that makes its way through the park. I love water features of any type, but when they are formed by nature, you can feel the peacefulness that only water can bring.
The structure of the park leads you to a beautiful first glimpse of the flowing stream. As you exit the parking lot, you begin a long walk up to the park entrance. The entrance sits next to a stunning waterfall. Each step of the journey to the main entrance has your eyes looking directly at an incredible. You cannot put a price tag on how this is structured (although I bet a contractor was able to). The waterfall you are looking at is bracketed by a majestic stone bridge and a water wheel. The scene is picturesque, it warmly lets you know that you are in for a wonderful day.
The area between the parking lot and the main building would make a tremendous park. The beauty of this area is better than any nature center ever dreamed of being. The flowers, bridges, walkways, and flowing water would be a wonderful place to spend the day, but it is only the beginning; we still get to see many cliffside waterfalls. Each one is so unique, the sounds, smells and natural beauty make each one worth the trip. It would be hard to pick a favorite but the one located behind the chapel, just off the deck was truly a pleasure to watch. Sitting on the lower deck was the perfect place to watch the cascading water. The waterfall begins slowly, 6-8 little flows work towards each other at the top of the cliff. During the middle section of the cliff, we have 2-3 larger falls that are still working towards each other in a process that only nature can create. By the time we reach the lower third of the fall, one fall now gently cascades into the pool below.
The fish within the winding stream are an added bonus. The stream is well stocked with rainbow trout. Watching the anglers is a special treat, each one has their own unique style. Some were flyfishing while others were using crankbaits. Watching a child fish is very fun, they have such a tremendous anticipation built into their face. For them even a little nibble is a big event because of the great potential.
One of the most interesting water features found within the park is the use of driving paths for the trams. The stream will go over a slight waterfall into a small pool. It will then travel over the roadway into the next section of the stream. This makes some interesting visuals as the trams go slowly through the water. If you have been here, then you know how fantastic the park can be. If you have not been here, I hope this collection inspires you to make the trip.
