Louisville, Ky Murals-NuLu District

Never has a city captured its glorious history in such a breathtaking style as the murals of Louisville. The murals showcase the cities history, pride and creativity in so many ways. If you are a city that host Muhammad Ali and Colonel Sanders, you better go big or go home. At the heart of Louisville is its districts. During its formative years, people of similar like, migrated to the same area. This process was not based on race, as with some large cities, but was more about skills, jobs, class or interest. This process created the perfect platform to generate creative murals. I was introduced to the murals in the spring of 2022, i instantly fell in love with their beauty, majesty and color palettes. I decided then that I would begin a quest to capture the prominent murals of district with my camera. I live 9 hours away, so each trip has to be planned but it is a task worth undertaking.

If you want the best galleries, unique specialty stores, amazing antique shops and delicious award-winning culinary, then the NuLu district is for you. There are so many good times here, you could spend all weekend taking them in. By the time you got to each business, you could start over again because it would have been several months since your last visit. The NuLu district (New Louisville) has a strong history, early in the formation of Louisville (founded in 1778) this district was a major part of the booming economy after the shipping industry found this great city in the early 1800’s. For many decades it was close in importance to the commerce section known as Market district. I chose this area to be my first venture into the amazing murals of Louisville because of the variety. All districts in Louisville have breathtaking murals but they can be central in theme, but not NuLu, its gradient of themes is over the top. Plus after seeing a picture of the horse mural, I knew I wanted to capture it in the first collection.
